ECB Director Andrew Strauss hopes the new England captain will be in place by the end of the month after Alastair Cook's resignation.
Vice Captain Joe Root is the big favorite to be named the next captain after Cook announced his retirement from the roll after four and a half years.
The record England referee took nearly eight weeks to decide his future - he will continue to play for the Test side - while the teams one day and Twenty20 were in action in India where Cook's side had been Hammered 4-0 before Christmas.
The ODI side will be back in action early next month a three-game Caribbean tour and Strauss hopes that a new test skipper will be in place before they leave.

Cook resigns "a surprise" but now Root is ready to lead England
"We hope to be able to name the new Captain Test before heading the team on the one-day tour in the West Indies on February 22," said Strauss Sky Sports.
"This gives the new captain an enormous amount of time to get used to the idea, to have conversations about things off-ground with coaches and support staff - so that when he heads into the field As captain of England for the first time in July, much of this stuff has been taken care of already. "
The departure of Cook was not necessarily a surprise and his future had been the subject of much speculation after the brutality of the defeat of England in England.
