Arsenal Round-Up: Bellerin injury update; Ozil unhappy with team-mates; striker target looking for summer move
After a poor weekend that featured a loss to Chelsea, Arsenal fans have woken up to some good news. Hector Bellerin hasn’t had a negative reaction after being taken off with a concussion during the match, according to Sky Sports. The Spaniard was forced off the pitch after just 17 minutes following a clash with Marcos Alonso. It took place just before the first goal and certainly had an effect on Arsenal as they had to continue without their best right back. Gabriel has done a decent job as a stand in, but he isn’t a natural in the position.

The Spaniard could return to the team next weekend and that will be a huge boost to Arsenal as it comes just days before their trip to the Allianz Arena. There will be a lack of confidence about the Gunners’ chances in the Champions League given their poor recent form, but it is important that they have their best players available for the two matches. On their day, they can beat anyone and it is important that they don’t put too much pressure on themselves ahead of the tie. Bellerin may have some poor moments at the back, but he provides an attacking outlet down the right-hand side. They will need him to progress in the Champions League and he should be back to play a part against Bayern Munich.
Mesut Ozil wasn’t happy with either Nacho Monreal or Alexis Sanchez after the final whistle on Saturday. This was due to both players walking off the pitch without going over to acknowledge the travelling supporters. The German himself has been criticised for something similar in the past by Per Mertesacker and he has clearly learned from that mistake. Ozil is seen as a passive figure, but this was a rare display of leadership from him and he deserves credit for it.
The supporters can sometimes be treated badly by players and it is poor that two of the Arsenal players ignored them after the final whistle. It is understandable that the players will be disappointed at the result, but they need to remember that the fans pay a lot of money to watch their side play. It is important to thank the supporters at the end of every game and this is the latest questionable act from Sanchez. He is a very competitive individual, but this was poor from him and more questions will be raised about his long-term future at the club.
Long-time Arsenal target Alexandre Lacazette has been talking about a summer departure from Lyon and that may have put the Gunners on red alert. However, it will take a bid of £60 million to activate the Frenchman’s release clause and Lyon are unlikely to accept less. There will be other interest in the French striker, but Arsenal could do with a quality addition up front and Lacazette fits that bill.

“I think that this summer will be the time where I will need a change of scenery and discover something else, still with the idea of advancing and progressing in terms of football and as a person.”
Lacazette has been at Lyon for a while and he will be 26 during the summer. It is the right time for him to look for a move to a bigger club. This season, he has scored 18 goals and has proven himself to be one of the most consistent strikers in French football. He would provide a more dynamic option to Arsenal’s front line as he can run with the ball and is an excellent finisher. It would be a risk from Arsenal to spend £60 million on the Frenchman, but it could be one worth making.
